Musings: Islanders 3, Penguins 2

February 16, 2009

Islanders 3, Penguins 2 (SO)

Plus/Minus is still on hiatus. Why? I forgot to take notes during the game. Too bad, you’ll have to deal with another installment of Musings.

The Pens suffered a shootout loss today to the Islanders. Yes, a loss to the worst team in the NHL.

Let the musings commence:

-One point is better than none.

-Living in New York, I’ve become a connoisseur of MSG’s broadcasts. The Rangers’ broadcasting team spends more time talking about the other team. The Devils have Chico Resch. The Islanders have the shittiest camerawork in the world. It makes everyone look like they have cement in their skates.

-The pace of the game was “meh” until the 3rd period and overtime.

-Dan Bylsma had no time to work with the team before the game today. Therrien ran yesterday’s practice. That said, it looked like the guys were kind of confused and/or unsure of what system they were playing.

-Jordan Staal has risen from his slumber. Beware.

-The rumor mill says management is working on a contract extension for Petr Sykora. That made my day.

-Thursday will be awesome. Bylsma will have had two days to start shaking up some shit.

-MSG’s broadcasting team interviewed a few Pens players before the game. They (MSG), reported that a number of the players were surprised that Therrien wasn’t fired earlier. No names were mentioned.

Next up: Canadiens at Penguins, Thursday, 7:00pm.

Go Pens (and Hail to Pitt).
