Pitt Slams DePaul

pittNo surprise here. Pitt extended DePaul’s losing streak to 14 games beating the Blue Demons 80-61.

The Panthers were led by DeJuan Blair (again) with his 20 points and 18 rebounds. Once again Blair’s opponents had no answer for Blair as he put up 13 rebounds in the first 13 minutes and 16 by halftime.

Blair has now grabbed 41 rebounds in the last two games which breaks Jerome Lane’s record of 38.

The game was never close despite the half time score of 40-30. It was clear from the tip-off that Pitt was in a different class.

Sam Young and Tyrell Biggs (thank god!) led the Panthers on a 16-2 second run to start the second half.

My DePaul player to watch, Dar Tucker, led the Blue Demons in every single category, points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.

Depending on what happens in the OU-Texas game tonight, Pitt could find its way into the number 1 ranking. As you know, the Panthers put down number 1 ranked UConn Monday and today number 3 ranked UNC fell to Maryland.

It’d be nice to see that tiny number 1 next to Pitt’s name but ultimately it’s meaningless. At this point in the season, the only thing that matters is securing a number 1 seed in March and with Pitt’s death grip on the number 1 RPI spot, expect to see Pitt to be the top seed in the NCAA tournament.

Pitt has Providence and Seton Hall next week and then they close out the season againstĀ  No. 10 Marquette and Connecticut at home the following week.
