Pirates/Cardinals Recap 4/6/09

April 6, 2009

Pirates Cardinals BaseballPirates win! Thanks to a 9 inning rally, the Pirates over came the Cardinals to win their third straight season opener.

Maholm pitched well going 6.2 surrendering 7 hits and gave up just 1 earned run. He looked sharp and deserving of his big off season contract. Tylor Yates came on in relief and predictably gave up a two run home run. John Grabow grabbed the win and Matt Capps picked up the save.

The biggest part of this win was the patience the Pirates showed at the plate. There were multiple instances where the Pirates fell behind in counts and worked them for walks. In the top of the 6 the Pirates drove in the walked batters to tie up the game. Of course Jack Wilson is the hero driving in three runs in the top of the 9 to win the game.
